The Braham family (+ spouses) starting their week in the Rocky mountains on top of Berthoud pass. What a beautiful day for a drive through the mountains.
Another beautiful day in the mountains at Echo Park in Dinosaur National Monument. Strangely, no one tested this feature out while we were there, Andrew must have been slacking.
There was a bit of a timing snafu with the in progress trip we were about to invade, so we got a bit of time to look around. Not a bad place to hang out, I must say. This big rock is called Steamboat, appropriatly. It's very close to where the Yampa and Green rivers join.
Perfect footwear, both water and sun proof!
Ah ha! There they are, our guides Duey and Kalin, and the other adventure seekers, Tom and Kris. Off we go!
Lunch! Then Matt gets a turn in the ducky!
The camping spot. I must say, as a backpacker, it was a bit hard to let someone else do all of the camp chores, but I got used to it.
A chance for the rafters to stretch their legs.
Duey demonstrates Butt falls. Step 1, one or more nuts plugs the top of the waterfall.
Step 2, other nuts stand under the trickle that's leaking around the butt plugger.
Step 3, the nuts plugging jump up to release the water backlog.
Step 4, the lower nuts get deluged! Fun!
Near the waterfall were some petroglyphs, including “rocky” featured as the background for this page, and also showing up stenciled on the oars.
We don't need no stinkin' bridge!
Packing up and eating breakfast.
We won't be losing her!
Andrew's turn in the ducky.
Gretchen's turn in the ducky.
Duey (sitting behind) convinces Tom and Matt that rowing the big boat is really a lot of fun. Suckers.
Judy's turn in the ducky.
Brenda's turn in the ducky.
Judy's turn rowing the big boat!
Duey must have run out of people to sucker into rowing.
Matt back in the ducky for Moonshine rapids! Unfortunately, we were all too busy holding onto the rafts to take good pictures of him riding the rapids and then swimming in the rapids. Big thanks to Duey and Kalin for their quick reaction to Matt going swimming and good job to Matt for keeping his cool and splashing out in fine form.
This rock wall is supposed to be “the cowboy” - bit of a stretch, the white patch is his forehead, below that are two black spots which are the eyes.
We're back! What a great trip!
